Imperial College London Mathematics School
Exceptional first-cohort exam results — but the school's permanent building has now gone through three contractors and won't open until 2027, and it's spending more per pupil on educational supplies than any comparable school in the country.
These headline figures are for the whole trust the school belongs to, not the school alone — see below.
Who files the accounts
Imperial Maths School is one of just two academies inside Frontier Learning Trust — formed in 2021 specifically to house the school alongside Woodhouse College, its long-established sixth-form-college co-sponsor.

School-level figures
The Department for Education's Financial Benchmarking and Insights Tool publishes school-level figures even where the trust's accounts consolidate:
| Year | School-level figures (FBIT) |
|---|---|
| 2024/25 | In-year balance £249,000; revenue reserve £423,000; teaching & teaching-support staff £7,317 per pupil (higher than 80% of comparable schools); educational supplies £4,356 per pupil — the highest of any comparator school (100th percentile); combined identified spending £13,010 per pupil; 104 pupils on roll (January 2025 census). |
| 2023/24 | Total income £832,000; total expenditure £708,000; in-year balance +£124,000; revenue reserve £173,000; 43 pupils on roll (January 2024 census) — the school's opening year, Year 12 only, so per-pupil figures aren't directly comparable to the two-cohort year that followed. |
FBIT's public pages don't expose total income, expenditure or staff cost at school level for 2024/25 — only in-year balance, revenue reserve and per-pupil category spend; the 2023/24 totals above came from FBIT's own history API, which does expose absolute figures for that year. The fuller 'curriculum and financial planning' view sits behind a DfE Sign-in login.
What the trust's own annual reports say about this school specifically:
- 2024/25: "Our first cohort of Imperial Maths School students sat their first set of external exams in summer 2025 with exceptional results... A-level outcomes: A*–B = 98.6%; A*–A = 92.8%; A* = 65.5%." 40 of 43 students progressed to university: 5 to Imperial College London, 5 to Oxbridge, 26 to other Russell Group universities. On the permanent building: "there have been further delays... the DfE has now appointed its 3rd contractor to the project (Kier Group plc)", expected to open September 2027.

Notable items in the accounts
- 2024/25: These figures cover the whole trust — Woodhouse College and Imperial Maths School together — since the trust runs only these two academies, this is a closer read on the maths school's environment than a typical 15-school MAT.

What we could not verify: FBIT's public pages don't publish total income, expenditure or staff cost at school level — only in-year balance, revenue reserve and per-pupil spend.; The trust-wide 'years' figures cover Woodhouse College plus the maths school combined — there's no way to isolate the maths school's own share from public filings.; The school's own pupil:teacher ratio couldn't be reliably read from FBIT's comparator tables (the school's own row showed 0, which looks like a display artifact rather than a real figure).; The ESFA allocation total (£1,094,276) doesn't visibly reconcile with the sum of its own itemised sub-columns in the same dataset (a roughly £407k gap) — reported as published, not adjusted..
